A unique figure in academic circles
Review of The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast.

Jordan Peterson is a divisive and unique public figure who has been widely discussed by Christians interested in his popularity and impact. In a 2018 article for The New York Times, David Brooks noted that fellow academic Tyler Cowen considered Peterson “the most influential public intellectual in the Western world right now.”
Peterson, a worldwide bestselling author, was a clinical psychologist and university professor until his refusal to abide by Canada’s compelled speech laws resulted in him being unable to continue in those careers. He continues to be a controversial figure in various academic circles, including Christian ones. Even so, through his popular in-person lectures, his YouTube presence, and his books, he has maintained a strong influence as people find his insights both interesting and valuable.
The episodes of Peterson’s top-rated podcast vary from interviews to discussions, which explain how “individuals and culture are shaped by values, music, religion, and beyond. [The podcast] will give you a new perspective and a modern understanding of your creativity, competence, and personality.”
This is one of my favourite podcasts. I especially enjoy the personalities presented, which include leading figures in religious thought, increasingly high-profile political representatives and key researchers in everything from psychedelics to environmental concerns.
I think Peterson’s podcast will not only give listeners a better understanding of themselves but also a better understanding of the world itself. Peterson does not adopt the party line of most academics. Instead, he presents truly counter-culture ideas, often with evidence from his years of working as a clinical psychologist and related anecdotes.
As far as I know, Peterson does not claim to be a Christian, but he presents Christianity through the lens of biologically oriented psychology – an intellectual method that seems to me to be rare on the public stage.
Peterson aims to change how one thinks. On his podcast, he applies his wide knowledge of psychological literature to a variety of topics, such as politics, mythical and religious stories and the commonalities and differences between the societal roles of men and women.
Peterson’s ability to relay complex information clearly and understandably really is a gift. His podcast is a must-listen for people interested in ideas.
