40 were baptized

A deep cut on the heel of her foot didn’t stop Mrs. Chan Sokmean from being baptized. After worshiping with her church one Sunday, she climbed down the cement steps into the reservoir near her house and lowered herself into the water.
On the way to the reservoir, she told Navy Chann-Chhay, a Resonate Global Mission missionary in Cambodia, that she had been wounded in a moto accident. The injury was one of the many hardships Mrs. Chan Sokmean was facing in her life. The same moto accident that wounded her took the life of her grandson. Her family lives too far away from medical care to have saved him.
But the day of Mrs. Chan Sokmean’s baptism, she shared that despite everything, she is still thankful for the grace of God – and for the small church who first taught her about the gospel and cares for her.
Mrs. Chan Sokmean first heard the gospel from Pastor Neang, who leads the small church in the community. With the help of Timothy Leadership Training facilitated by Chann-Chhay and her husband Ly Chhay, Pastor Neang has been working to share the gospel and seek transformation in this rural community.
Cambodia is primarily a Buddhist nation, but people like Mrs. Chan Sokmean have been captivated by the story of Jesus. It wasn’t long before she decided to follow Christ.
“Have you accepted Jesus as your personal savior?” Pastor Neang asked in Khmer, the local language, that Sunday afternoon.
“Yes,” replied Mrs. Chan Sokmean.
Mrs. Chan Sokmean was one of more than 40 people who were baptized that day. As she climbed up the steps out of the water, members of the church embraced her. The church cares for Mrs. Chan Sokmean, and Pastor Neang and his wife continue to teach and disciple her.
