This past year, the directors of Canada Corporation of the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) voted to separate Canadian “church operations” completely from American operations while maintaining the unity of “ecclesiastical functions.” The Council of Delegates, which manages the church between Synods, then ratified this move.

Christian Reformed: My Fourth Identity

I grew up in the Christian Reformed Church. I was born into a Christian home, baptized on the eighth day, Sunday-schooled at age four, children’s-choired at eight, catechized at 13, faith-professed at 17. I went to Christian day schools from K-12, then Calvin College and Calvin Seminary.

In June I was at the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) Synod where, with the Reformed Church of America (RCA), they declared that the two denominations would “act together in all matters except those in which deep differences of conviction compel to act separately.” It will be challenging to work this out and discover the “deep differences of conviction.”
