Magnificat

A poem

Mary told us that she heard a voice,
As she went about her daily chores,
Giving her scant reason to rejoice –
Neighbours like to spread a tale, of course.
Is it true that she responded thus:
Fiat mihi as your word has said”?
I would surely make more of a fuss:
Couldn’t God have waited till we’d wed?
All the same, she thought it for the best:
Through her seed all people would be blessed.
