When I teach spiritual formation, I urge my students to expand the belovedness phrase, and say rather “we are the beloved of God, bumbling and be-deviled, called to follow Christ in death, in order to rise again for Spirit-led mission.”

“I made half of the public university wage for instructing a course. Even a teaching assistant at a public university makes more than an adjunct professor at a Christian university,” said one part-time professor at a Christian college, who was trying to raise a family on contract work. “It was frustrating. This book is a chronicle of an intellectual journey that includes insight into Reformed and evangelical cultural dynamics through the last 50 years. Although Mouw’s canonization as a Reformed saint is still pending, this is a gem of a book.
So I do believe a Kuyperian Christian can love Jesus, deep down in their heart. This, too, could shape a more loving character in our pluralistic mingling, a character prone to conviction, civility and empathy, rather than hard-headedness, arrogance or schism. Jesus saves in many ways.
The Kuyperian tradition thrives when it produces a subculture that captures a new generation’s imagination. This is the task that lies ahead for this movement, and its allies like Redeemer and the Reid Trust.
