a poem.

is backed up at your border

It is another day in the life of the world
on its head

Sorrow and need
are lined up
and leaning against the line
you have drawn around yourself

Sorrow and need
fear and desperation
broken walls, broken water mains, broken arms

and people
far too many people
are massed at your gate

Let them in
Feel overwhelmed
but let them in

Feed them
clothe and house
care for and school their children
Find work for their hands

Sing them your songs

Learn theirs

Yes. Ask
to learn their lost songs of home
