Easter art and poem.
“But then, I told myself, Easter brings out the best in us. It’s hard to be dour when one glorious dawn brings us eternity.”
Using humour and scientific facts, New Jersey native Frank Turek gave the audience at the Apologetics Canada Conference 2017 some practical ways to defend their faith.
Many who are reading this article may react as I did when I first heard Pastor Scott encourage regular gospel-telling from the pulpit. That is because we tend to think of the gospel as a simple, salvation message targeted at seekers, or as a brief sermon “add on” for the uninitiated.
EduDeo Ministries recently celebrated one year of operations at their new office location at in Hamilton, Ontario. The new office space is named “Campus 621” for the street address (621 Barton St. East), and their goal is for this place to be “a space where people will work together for local and global renewal.”

The response by the Afrikaners at the conference who spoke up in defense of apartheid took me completely aback. They did not contest the charge of injustice. Instead they insisted that justice was not a relevant category. Order and disorder were the relevant categories. South Africa was threatened with disorder; communists were lurking behind every bush. And as to the whole project of apartheid, they insisted that this was an act of goodwill on the part of the ruling Afrikaners.
I tried wrestling once in high school, and that was enough to know it was not for me. I don’t like wrestling, but I do it quite a bit. I wrestle with God. I wrestled on election day in the U.S. I wrestle with understanding my place in the world. We all wrestle.
Describing the world as “a powder keg” that feels “more afraid and fragile” than it ever has, British musician and activist David Blower said that he believes the Jonah story and its radical lesson of “enemy-love” has something to say into this moment of history. Blower believes that we were given Jonah so we could stand with him and be shocked by God’s mercy on tyrants and ask ourselves, “To whom do we need to go to find the image of God?” For this we don’t need to go to Iraq. As Gritter observed, none of us is lacking a practise field.
The God who accompanies us is himself silent before human pain and suffering, whether his own or that of his sisters and brothers. The incarnate God is not silent in the sense that he acquiesces to the injustices of our world, but in the sense that he refuses to explain suffering (away).
