Rose der Nederlanden was so much more than a work colleague. She was a one-woman task force, a bulwark of Christian Courier for nearly 20 years. She lived the “ministry” part of our tagline, “redemptive journalism ministry.” And she was my friend.
At the beginning of most church services, pastors bring a greeting from God to his people and end with a benediction, a literal “good word.” Benediction is a noun of action; it has the dual purpose of carrying a blessing from God and sending us on our way.

This month marks 10 years since I started as Editor with CC. So I’ve been thinking a lot about your letters – the ones I’ve kept, and the ones that make me throw my pen against the wall. Thank you to every one who has taken the time to point out something you liked in a word of encouragement or kind comment. Thanks for praying for my task and for the vision of this all-of-life-redeemed paper. Thanks for keeping me grounded by catching my mistakes and with letters to “Mr. Bick.”
