Hello <em>CC</em> reader,

On Monday, President Trump threatened new tariffs on Canada, straining an already difficult political relationship. But we don't believe that one man can dictate how we view our neighbours. And we know you think so, too.

Almost a quarter of our email newsletter readers (that's you!) live in the U.S. and about half of our website visitors are American. Canadians naturally consume a lot of American media. But it often takes a conscious choice for Americans to find Canadian media: we appreciate the show of solidarity from our southern readers.

Former CC editor Bert Witvoet, who had personal ties to the U.S. (as many of us do), said once that “comparative listening is a great deterrent to brainwashing.” He was making a plea for people to read news from beyond their horizon.

We want to believe that redemptive journalism is something that isn't constrained by borders. And we – humbly – believe that reading northern views can broaden our news. It’s the small, community-formed publications (like CC) that will get us through a time of polarization and misinformation.

We mentioned that many of our online readers are American, so it may surprise you that only 5% of our print subscribers are from the U.S. If you value CC's reporting and are looking for a practical way to invest in cross-border community, consider taking action:
  • If you're reading from the states, sign up for print!
  • If you have loved ones in the US, send them a gift subscription! (Don't forget to click "this is a gift" after you select the subscription you want).
Christian Courier remains committed to independent, hope-filled, reformed journalism. We appreciate your commitment to being part of the conversation.
Peace,
Meghan Kort and Maaike VanderMeer
