Fine-tuned by God
We cherish our time together and we value what God has given us to honour and watch over. Yet I am often reminded of Proverbs 6:9 – “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Mistakes allowed
How could I have made that mistake when I know the area so well? How could I have been so absent-minded? It had been raining – were my only thoughts on getting out of the rain? Was my mind on the amazing food at the restaurant? Or was it the delight of sharing this day as a family, celebrating the wonder of what God has joined together? It was probably all of the above.
Vacation from problems?
I started wondering how many of us would like a week or even a lifetime away from an unwanted desire or attraction. I believe that because we are living in a sinful world and no one is perfect, we all have areas of need and could well struggle with something that is not God’s intent for what he has designed.
Getting un-busy
Sometimes people ask me why we live in Winnipeg. The winters can be brutally harsh; spring is usually grey and muddy; summer can be filled with bugs, especially mosquitos, and autumn – our most beautiful season – is far too short.
How then shall we live?
What do we expect from family members? As brothers and sisters together, working out our faith in fear and trembling? We’re justified, we’re adopted . . . and so how then shall we live with one another in the bonds of love that God the Father has lavished on us?
Our God of colour
Within the church we are having plenty of conversations about the complexities of gender identity and that is truly amazing. Especially given that this topic was once a taboo conversation. As someone who has and continues to walk through gender identity issues, my heart has always desired that people within the church can talk freely. But as the conversations develop, I feel that there is a danger that we see God viewing gender and sexuality as grey issues.
