What happens when the going gets tough. Do we end up leaving, deciding it just isn’t worth it, or do we get into the trenches with our loved ones and fight for something we pledged to honour – which is God first, and marriage second?
In my life I’ve come to realize that I need to worship God in spirit and truth. I know how easy it is for this human being to blame God when things don’t go the way I want them to.
Many people start over in life. They lose jobs, homes, marriages, health or financial stability, and some rise above these hardships and some fail to thrive.
This year is nearly done, finished, and we can’t repeat it even if we try. All the experiences that we have walked through in 2015 are now filed away in our memory banks. We can take out the files every once in a while (or more often than we should) and try to put ourselves back into certain situations.
“This is the best day ever!” exclaimed my five-year-old daughter as we headed to church on Sunday.
You may have heard of Melissa Klein, a Christian; she’s the owner of Sweet Cakes bakery in Oregon. After refusing to make a cake for Rachel Bowman-Cryer’s wedding to another woman, Klein was sued. The subsequent court case has caused quite the stir of emotion within secular and Christian communities. It has also triggered a wide range of responses among my friends from various denominations.
In my last column I shared how love won out in my life and propelled me to the cross of Jesus, which changed the direction of my life.
So much has been written about same sex attraction and LGBTI (Amnesty International’s descriptive: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) issues, both in secular and Christian circles. Within the Christian community we have great diversity in our thoughts on this issue, as Julia Stronks pointed out in the May 11 issue of Christian Courier.
I was reminded this year that compromise is a dangerous game. It is a sin that clings to and entangles us, which begins to make room for more sin until disillusionment sets in and blinds us to the truth.
Immediately following this pleasurable feast, I began to feel tightness in my chest, pain in the middle of my back and shallow breathing. I knew the symptoms and announced, “This is it, I’m having a heart attack!” I pulled over and sat in the passenger seat while my friend drove me to the hospital emergency room.
We still live with the anticipation of Jesus the Messiah, our coming King, who will rule and reign – every government upon his shoulders. We still long for the day when every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that he is Lord of all.
Renovations! That word can elicit a variety of responses. There are countless magazines and reality shows on the topic. I have to admit that I love to watch others and have helped people with their own renovations, but when it comes to doing my own I am not filled with joyful anticipation.
